To a computer, everything must be a number. The words on this page are numbers before they turned to the glyphs you recognize as letters on your screen. The letter A is really just the value of 65 . What your computer sees is even less imaginative: 1000001.

So how did a computer dream up Adam and everything else here?

Latent Spaces, and Eve

Our Adam and Eve manifested from somewhere. All art does. But from where?

Let's pause here for a second. What exactly does that mean?

The idea of what to draw, let alone how, comes from somewhere. Your imagination. But WHERE is your imagination, WHAT is your imagination, and from where in your imagination did the idea appear?

In some sense, your imagination is a "latent space". It doesn't exist physically, yet it contains everything in the universe and beyond. A hidden realm that can manifest anything on demand.

Digital latent spaces

Your imagination latent space is hidden unless you draw what's in there, but we can share one. You can download latent spaces from the internet. Limitless imagination of everything in and outside our universe. At the convenient size of a few gigabytes, and at the power of your fingertips. Imagination unleashed, albeit difficult to control.

Think about width, height and depth. These are three fundamental and familiar dimensions. More importantly, you can describe a box of any size, or span a space, or point to something, with values in these dimensions.

Digital imagination is done by creating an extremely large number of dimensions. Thousands, even. These dimensions do not make any sense for humans.

But to make it a little intuitive, we could assign a word to a dimension. Remember that the word itself is just a number. The image to the left is a cat, and therefore extends far into the cat dimension. But it also extends into the ink splash dimension, and it's floating in space, with-things-around-it dimension and neon light dimension.
